Knowledge is the Beginning

Synopsis
Founded in 1999 as a collaborative effort by renowned pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim and Columbia University professor Edward Said, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra seeks, as its mission, to bring together young Arab and Israeli musicians as a source of hope and inspiration that Arabs and Israelis might live in peace. This film chronicles the activities of the orchestra through 2005. The music they create is spell-binding, and the film raises issues that are bound to be conversation-starters. The topics around Palestinian statehood are explored in this thought-provoking and controversial film.
